This International client, a single business woman with several homes in the US, had remodeled her master bath and kitchen a few years ago, but was not at all happy with the results. John Cannon was a bit mystified, but after discussing what the client did not like about the products she used, John discovered the raised panels on all the cabinetry had discolored and shrunk within the door frames and showed raw wood. The client hated her fragile countertops and wanted to open up the kitchen to the wonderful views of the Chicago skyline as well as incorporate simple, clean, light detailing to blend with her antique furnishings. The challenge was to give her practicality, glamour, additional storage space, cabinets that would not shift or shrink and have it all designed, priced, approved, ordered and completed in seven months while she was away for the winter. In addition, the client wanted to panel her study, add a larger TV and not destroy the remainder of the apartment in the process. Always John Cannon’s favorite kind of project…creating miracles! Cannon Frank reached out to Neff of Chicago for quality custom cabinetry that could be trusted not to shrink or discolor, and who could accomplish this “race” to completion. Neff makes 87 different door styles and leave it to John, who created an 88th door style Neff had never done before, but there were no worries….they came through perfectly. Cannon Frank removed the wall between the dining room and kitchen, installed a white quartz floor with a black granite Greek key border, satin and high-gloss custom cabinetry from Neff and created a hidden door to the matching laundry area. Integrated Sub-Zero, Fisher-Paykel and Gaggenau appliances were selected to complement the natural quartz countertops and approximately 25% more additional storage was added in a durable yet attractive kitchen of the client’s dreams. The master bath remodel includes a his and hers bath with a shared shower in white quartz and marble, and glass and mother of pearl mosaic floral panels for glamour, shine and durability. To ground this space Cannon Frank chose a sable colored high-gloss wood finish in a “pillowed” door style. The look is completed with glass tops and slabs and polished nickel fixtures by Dornbracht.

Once the spaces were gutted and physical measures were taken for all the custom cabinetry, John discovered black mold in the air vents….this HAD to be addressed and the next step was taking out all of the ceilings, ductwork, HVAC units, replacing the components, installing new ceilings, recessed cans and new crown moldings, all without damaging the existing silk wallcoverings. Cannon Frank finished the project two days before the client arrived back home and the client said John truly was a miracle worker!
